Machine Shop Work of the Journeyman Level

DUTIES:

Perform machine shop work of the journeyman level in the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of metal components and equipment. Handles the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps (vacuum, air, water, etc.) and other miscellaneous machinery.

This individual is responsible for completing assignments in the construction, assembly, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of metal parts, tools, models, and equipment that require a high degree of accuracy and precision. Work may involve limited design responsibilities. Although work falls principally in the machinist's trade, the employee is expected to employ some skills of the electric, plumbing, and welding trades. Job requirements, on occasion require work beyond normal duty hours resulting from emergency or high priority work.

Manufacture a wide variety of metal components through the operation of lathes, shapers, milling machines, drill presses, and similar equipment, gauging work carefully by using precision tools, fabricated mechanical devices, and units.

Operate welding equipment and use hand tools in the fabrication of mechanical devices; maintain and repair mechanical equipment and prototypes; operate soldering equipment.

Make jigs and fixtures.

Repair and maintain machine shop equipment; repair precision instruments; gear boxes, air compressors, and pumps.

Replace shafts, bearings, bushings, belts, shear-pins, pulleys, and gears.

Perform associated electrical work and/or plumbing work required for maintenance and repair of pumps and other equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED; 4 years of experience in the trade which may include an apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training and should include some experience as a journeyman machinist; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and standard practices of the machinist's trade.

Considerable knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machine shop tools and equipment.

Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Some knowledge of the plumbing, and welding trades.

Ability to work from plans, blueprints, sketches, models, and oral or written instructions, and to exercise judgment in determining techniques and methods.

Skill in the use and care of tools, machinery, and equipment of the machinist's trade.

Marine HVAC Service Technician

Company: Aqua-Air Manufacturing

SUMMARY

Responsible for installation, retrofit and repair of marine air conditioning and refrigeration systems installed on luxury yachts. Must be able to utilize the knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipefitting, electrical, mechanical layouts, commercial chiller and HVAC controls experience. Only those candidates with several years of commercial HVAC experience will be considered. Experience with water source heat pumps and refrigeration is a must.

  • Responsible for servicing product and equipment on luxury yachts and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Performs installations, repairs, overhauls, and start-ups of marine HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools, following blueprints, wiring diagrams, piping schemes or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
  • Uses power tools and computers.
  • Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs systems and products onboard luxury yachts.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
  • Performs service on warranty and non-warranty systems.
  • Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining yacht layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and coordinating on-site work, as necessary.
  • Inspects vehicles by checking vehicle condition and literature supplies.
  • Maintains vehicles by keeping records of service manuals, scheduling, and completing repairs and maintenance service.
  • Maintains tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
  • Documents work by completing paperwork on each job and maintaining files.
  • Represents the company by serving as a direct customer contact.
  • Determines parts to order for repairs and timeliness of need.
  • Keeps current on all company products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair.
  • Provides technical support to customers.
  • Occasional travel requirements with possible overnight travel. Valid passport required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter, organized, professional in manner and appearance, with great people skills that takes pride in their work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervise HVAC Field Technician Apprentices in the Service Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; accuracy, legibility and timely submittal of paperwork for subsequent billing.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or 5 years apprenticeship; and one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. **Commercial HVAC experience is required**Marine HVAC experience a plus but not absolutely necessary**

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid driver's license
  • EPA Approved Universal Technician Certification
  • License preferred (e.g., HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer, etc.)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Individual should have no physical, sight or hearing limitations, and have the capability to occasionally lift over 100 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position requires working onboard luxury yachts of all sizes. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock (high voltage); and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Employees are required to provide their own hand tools.
