DUTIES:

Perform machine shop work of the journeyman level in the fabrication, maintenance, and repair of metal components and equipment. Handles the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps (vacuum, air, water, etc.) and other miscellaneous machinery.

This individual is responsible for completing assignments in the construction, assembly, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of metal parts, tools, models, and equipment that require a high degree of accuracy and precision. Operate welding equipment and use hand tools in the fabrication of mechanical devices; maintain and repair mechanical equipment and prototypes; operate soldering equipment.

Make jigs and fixtures.

Repair and maintain machine shop equipment; repair precision instruments; gear boxes, air compressors, and pumps.

Replace shafts, bearings, bushings, belts, shear-pins, pulleys, and gears.

Perform associated electrical work and/or plumbing work required for maintenance and repair of pumps and other equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED; 4 years of experience in the trade which may include an apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training and should include some experience as a journeyman machinist; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods, and standard practices of the machinist's trade.

Considerable knowledge of the maintenance and repair of machine shop tools and equipment.

Responsible for installation, retrofit and repair of marine air conditioning and refrigeration systems installed on luxury yachts.
